Is Social Class Definitive?
Every day we walk by tens, to hundreds, to
possibly thousands of people depending on where you live. As we walk by
each person is different. Not only their personalities are different but also their
social class. As we walk around you can notice how people act differently. For
example how they walk, and talk, and even look around at the world. Some people
would use this information they gather from social cues to make an
understanding of how they are and what social class they are apart of. We do
not always realize this, but we do it every day. Another interesting point is
that we hang out with who are most like us. So, depending on what social class
we are in that will be who we will mainly stick around with. For example, as a child most kids play and
hang out with the kids that live close by and are in their neighborhood. So if
born on a low income area the surrounding kids will also come form the same
background.
But the question that has been asked and been
pondered by many people is can I switch social class’s? And how are we defined into
social classes? The short answer to the question is can I switch social Class’s
is yes. But it is very difficult too. Even if you were once poor and have millions
of dollars those of the higher social class might not consider you on the high
social class group. That being the different social class groups are not just defined
by money but how you act. Even if you want to change there are little things
such as the way you walk and even the words and vocabulary used when talking to
one another. Those little things can be a huge clue to those of a higher social
class that you in their eyes do not belong. To be able to change all of that
requires a lot of work, focus, and practice. It is changing almost everything
about how you act and socialize with others.
Another part to this is climbing the social class
ladder is a lot harder than saying or even practicing. If one is born into a
very low income class it is more likely that they will stay in that class
compared to climbing higher. That being because of the lack of help and
connections. Without a role model or an example to look up to it is often
difficult to make decisions that will help in the long run and are most often
the people chose the same path as there parents and friends around them ending
up staying in the button or lower social class. But again it is not impossible.
Someone that is focused, A hard worker, and smart can accomplish the climbing. Usually,
it requires sacrifice and opportunities not granted or looked for by those
around them. As well it takes an incredible amount of determination that is
often not found.
To conclude the social classes are made up of
many different people, genders, and races. All are different but make up all
parts of the social classes. The social class you are in is usually decided by
one how you act and two how much money you have. There are plenty of very
wealthy people in the middle or lower class. As well as very poor people that spend
all their time and money on trying to stay in that high social class. But
depending on your desire and hard work and what you want in life you can switch
social classes by climbing higher or lower on the social class ladder.
